Curriculum

Every child at Parc Eglos is recognised as a unique individual and given opportunities to make excellent progress across the curriculum. Our key Parc Eglos virtues, our PARCC statement below, underpin our school ethos. We promote spiritual, moral, social and cultural development to help develop a moral compass in each and everyone in our school community and promote personal development ready for the wider world. By celebrating our Cornish identity and the community around us, we give children a sense of place within a national and global context. Our creative curriculum offers all children the experiences needed to inspire a love of learning for life.

At Parc Eglos our curriculum drivers are our PARCC Virtues, designed so children are;

Aspirational

Resilient & challenge seeking

Caring & collaborative

Creative & Curious

At Parc Eglos the curriculum is designed to: recognise children’s prior learning, provide first hand learning experiences, allow the children to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience and become creative, critical thinkers. We aim to provide children with a safe, happy, caring and challenging environment which enables them to reach their full potential intellectually, emotionally, physically, socially, creatively and spiritually in a climate of mutual respect.

Every child is recognised as a unique individual. We celebrate and welcome differences within our school community. We strive for high standards of behaviour and academic achievement for all children; we encourage initiative and we encourage children to feel positively about themselves. Although the school promotes a Christian ethos which encourages children to be honest and trustworthy, we promote diversity in order to offer multicultural understanding of world religions.

The ability to learn is underpinned by the teaching of basic skills, knowledge, concepts and values. We constantly provide enhancement opportunities to engage learning and believe that childhood should be a happy, investigative and enquiring time in our lives where there are no limits to curiosity and there is a thirst for new experiences and knowledge. We use virtues to promote a positive character and positive attitudes to learning which reflect the values and skills needed to promote responsibility for learning and future success.

Community involvement is an essential part of our curriculum as we celebrate local traditions, learning new skills to enable the children to take an active role in events throughout the year.

Children leave our school with a sense of belonging to a tightly knit community where they have the confidence and skills to make decisions, self-evaluate, make connections and become lifelong learners.

Curriculum Implementation

Parc Eglos engages all learning styles using a variety of resources including Early Years Outcomes, National Curriculum Statutory Guidance, Values Based Learning, the RE Cornwall Agreed Syllabus, Outdoor Learning and enhancement opportunities which support teaching of the curriculum.

Innovation opportunities can be achieved through a creative curriculum.

Creativity is about:

  • connecting: seeing relationships and combining in new ways
  • risking: having the self-confidence and freedom to fail and keep trying
  • envisaging: being original and imaginative about what might be
  • analysing: asking critical and challenging questions
  • thinking: taking time for reflection and soft thinking
  • interacting: sharing ideas and collaborating
  • varying: testing options and trying in different ways
  • elaborating: exploring and fiddling and doing the unnecessary
