School Governors

Our school is proud to be part of Crofty Education Trust, the governance of which is the responsibility of a Board of Trustees – chaired by Mr Mike Hosking.

Crofty Governance – Crofty Education Trust

Our school has a Local Governance Committee (LGC) – this is a committee of the Board of Trustees. Our Local Governors are all volunteers and have an important role in supporting and challenging our school leaders to achieve the best possible outcomes for every child in the school.

Governors are responsible for monitoring the schools’ arrangements for Safeguarding and progress towards their School Development Plan. Governors do this by speaking with pupils and staff and by receiving regular reports from both the Headteacher and the Trust about their progress.

Governors also have a responsibility for engaging with stakeholders – parents, pupils and staff – so a range of views can help shape the future of everyone within the wider Crofty Education Trust community.

If you are interested in becoming a governor at one of our schools, please contact our Governance Coordinator: Contact – Crofty Education Trust

You can contact the Chair of Governors by emailing: Peter.Sheppard@croftymat.org

Copies of Local Governance Committee minutes are available from the School Office, upon request.

Peter Sheppard – Chair of Governors

I Graduated from Camborne School of Mines in 1967. My first job was prospecting in Sierra Leone.

Next I worked at Wheal Jane for a year then joined Compair Holmans for five years and then Boart Hard Metals before forming Drillserve Ltd in Camborne in 1979.

I have worked in mining and civil engineering all over the world.

I became a school governor at Redruth School in 1987 and still am. I am a Trustee of King Edward Mine and Crofty Education Trust.

Sam Shainberg – Parent Governor

My name is Sam Shainberg and I’m a governor at Parc Eglos School. Not only do my two boys go to Parc Eglos, but I’m also a primary school teacher myself. Although I grew up in Porthleven, I have lived my adult life, since returning from University, in Helston. I have been teaching in Cornwall for 14 years, during which time, I have had the privilege of working with many children and families, and have learnt a great deal about what is important for both pupils and parents.

In my spare time, I love spending time outdoors with my wife, 2 boys and our dog. Most weekends, regardless of the weather, we can be found on a local beach, in the woods or on the sidelines of a football pitch watching one of the boys playing football. I also love getting out on the golf course most weekends, despite my distinctly average ability.

I feel that being both a parent at the school and a teacher, I am in a unique position, allowing me the perspective of both a parent and an educational professional being able to represent and advocate for all steak holders, particularly the pupils, their parents and members of staff at the school.

Matthew Rogers – Parent Governor

I joined as a parent governor for Parc Eglos in early 2024, back at the school I attended as a child, and am keen to give back to the setting and community that gave me so much.

Through schooling, I developed a passion for learning and sport, and this led me to complete a Masters in Sports Pedagogy and Physical Education, and train as a secondary teacher.
Following the announcement of the London 2012 Games I got involved in performance sport with volleyball, and eventually transitioned into major events management. Alongside working at a number of Games, this shift gave me the chance to work internationally at the International Federation in Luxembourg and these experiences helped me develop a wide range of skills and a broader perspective on education needs and community engagement.

Now back in Helston, I am delighted to be raising my family here and to have my own children attending Parc Eglos. I also work at a neighbouring secondary school, which keeps me closely connected to education locally. As a parent governor, I’m committed to supporting the school in providing the best possible opportunities for every child, both academic and socially, and I’m excited to contribute to its future successes.

Nicola Endean – Staff Governor

I am Nicola Endean, the Staff Governor at Parc Eglos School. I started my teaching career with Parc Eglos in 2017. Before joining our wonderful community, I taught for 18 years at another school within the Crofty Trust. With my experience in education, I have gained a deep understanding of teaching practices, children’s development, and the challenges faced by both educators and learners.

I took on the role of Staff Governor because I believe my direct experience in the classroom enables me to offer valuable insights into the decision-making process at the governance level. I am committed to ensuring that the policies and strategies implemented align with the needs of both staff and children, creating an environment where effective teaching and positive outcomes for children are prioritised.

Nicola Tremayne – Parent Governor

I have two young children at Parc Eglos, and went to Helston School myself. I am a pound Helstonian very much looking forward to being involved with the School to support where I can.

When I am not running the children around to their various clubs and activities, I have an exciting job as a Senior Consultant in the Offshore wind industry project managing the consenting stage of Offshore wind farms in the UK. This involves managing large budgets, project managing technical teams, whilst balancing developer expectations with Government Policies.

I feel that my skills and experience in managing varying stakeholder needs inside tight budgets whilst constantly striving for improvement and efficiencies, will fit in well with the great team at Parc Eglos.

As a family we love the great outdoors, enjoying all the excitement Cornwall has to offer, walks, bike rides, horse riding, all year round beaching with camping in the summer.
