“One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way.”

Frank Smith

Our French curriculum is built on the strong foundations of the UK National Curriculum, ensuring that all pupils develop the knowledge, skills, and cultural awareness to become confident and enthusiastic language learners. We believe that learning a foreign language not only enriches pupils’ communication skills but also broadens their horizons, fostering curiosity and an appreciation for other cultures.

To support our curriculum coverage, we use the Language Angels scheme of work and resources, which provide a clear progression of skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Lessons are carefully structured to ensure that children build their vocabulary and grammatical understanding step by step, while also engaging in songs, games, and interactive activities that make language learning enjoyable and memorable.

Through our approach, pupils are encouraged to express themselves in French with increasing accuracy and confidence. They are given regular opportunities to revisit prior learning, apply their knowledge in new contexts, and celebrate their achievements as linguists.

Ultimately, our aim is to inspire a love of languages that will prepare pupils for further study at secondary school and beyond, equipping them with the skills and enthusiasm to communicate in an increasingly interconnected world.
